Shotgun!

When we first purchased 20 acres to start a farm, we imagined rolling fields of grasses and crops, populated by pollinators and small creatures, including our chickens and sheep. More realistically, we have rolling fields of grasses that are often better mowed to keep the oxeye daisies in check until our cover crops take hold. Mowing everything would make our farm look like a golf course; pretty. But our mowing strategy is more like crop circle design; functional. We have pathways to and from the chickens, the production crops, the sheep paddock. But we do have a golf cart. Obie calls shotgun, and much like kids that make this claim, he often parks himself in the cart so there’s no chance he’ll miss a ride or that Ola will take his spot.
